Lens on Life – Ghana

Ghana (2010) – Children are an irrepressible subject, and this is maybe my favourite kid shot ever. The group coalesced very quickly before my camera, and I had to process a couple of things in a few seconds. I realized I needed a fill-in flash to make the scene pop. I also remember thinking instinctively that if the kids got all the way into their poses, it would turn into something static. What you see is them swooping into those postures, with all the attendant energy and spontaneity and swagger.
