Lens on Life – Ukraine

Odessa, Ukraine

Odessa, Ukraine (2016) – Much of my travel, research, and photography these days is concentrated in eastern Europe, notably Ukraine. There’s something about the heaviness of history in that region, and the indelible scars of wars and totalitarian regimes, that makes it irresistible to me. This portrait, taken on a rainy day in Odessa on the Black Sea coast, evokes some of that gravity and melancholy.
