Advocate or Activist: What is the best way to effect change? (in Vancouver)

From debates and lobbyists to boycotts and protesters, political action takes many forms. Should athletes refuse to compete against athletes from politically contentious countries? Should we burn great books from authors whose religious beliefs we find repugnant? Should we restrict artists from presenting their work? Should we reject academics purely on the basis of their religious or political beliefs or the country they are from?

Is there a time and place for righteous indignation? Or is it more effective to engage in dialogue with those we oppose?
