When Efficiency Trumps Quality: What Happens When Health Care is Treated as a Commodity?

Three professors from the UBC School of Nursing present the results of two cafés scientifique they conducted in Vancouver and Prince George in March 2011. Aimed at a lay audience, the cafés were held to foster wider public discourse around what happens when health care is treated as a commodity. After listening to brief research-based presentations about current challenges in health care delivery, audience members engaged in semi-structured dialogue about the challenges, how to increase public engagement, and how to influence democratic political processes around health care policy.
